Thinking of Moving Jobs This Summer? Here’s Why You Shouldn’t Wait

Thinking of Moving Jobs This Summer? Here’s Why You Shouldn’t Wait

Summer has traditionally been viewed as a quieter time for recruitment. Many people assume employers put hiring on hold while staff are on annual leave, making September the “right” time to start looking for a new role.

In reality, that’s no longer the case.

At Link Personnel, we’ve seen many employers continue recruiting throughout the summer months. Vacancies still need to be filled, projects continue, and businesses can’t always afford to delay hiring until autumn. For job seekers, this creates an opportunity that is often overlooked.

For many people, summer is a chance to switch off and enjoy a well-earned break. If you’re unhappy in your current role, it’s easy to tell yourself that you’ll start looking once the holidays are over or the children are back in school. Before you know it, September arrives and thousands of other professionals have the exact same idea.

One of the biggest advantages of searching for a new job during the summer is reduced competition. While fewer candidates are actively applying for roles, employers are often still interviewing and making offers. This means you may have a better chance of standing out and securing interviews than during the busy autumn recruitment period.

We’ve regularly seen candidates secure excellent opportunities in July and August with far less competition than they would typically face in September. In some cases, candidates have reached the final interview stage as the only shortlisted applicant. For employers who need to hire quickly, finding the right person is often more important than waiting for a larger pool of applicants.

Of course, securing the right role still comes down to your experience, skills and interview performance. However, timing can also play an important part in a successful job search. The strongest candidate doesn’t always get the job—sometimes the successful applicant is simply the right person at the right time.

If you’ve been thinking about making a move, don’t dismiss the summer months. They could provide the perfect opportunity to find your next role before everyone else starts looking.

Considering a career move? Speak to one of our recruitment specialists today on 01 845 6312. We’d be delighted to discuss the current market, offer impartial career advice and help you find the right opportunity.
