An International Law Firm is seeking a part-time Accounts Assistant to join its Finance team. This position will be offered on an initial 6-month contract, requiring 2 days of work per week.

The Accounts Assistant will report to the Finance Manager and will support the daily operations of the finance department, collaborating closely with the wider finance team. The role involves handling a range of accounting tasks to support both lawyers and staff, including logging supplier invoices, applying payments, opening and closing client matters, reviewing billing rates, generating client invoices, scanning and filing documents, and assisting with any other ad-hoc requests that arise in the normal course of business.

Salary: to 42K (pro-rated)

Key Responsibilities & Skills

  • Operational Processing:

    • Accounts Payable: Ensure all payments, disbursements, and invoices are logged accurately and promptly.

    • Banking: Assist in ensuring all incoming and outgoing payments are recorded accurately, with regular reconciliation of office and client bank accounts.

    • Matter Management: Ensure all matters and billing rates are set up or updated accurately, and address any queries related to matters.

    • Client Billing: Generate and amend invoices/credit notes and address billing inquiries.

  • Accounting and Analysis:

    • Assist with processing accounting cost uploads, primarily for billing readiness.

    • Support the preparation of cost variance analysis as part of the month-end closing process.

Key Skills:

  • Proficiency in Excel (required for daily use).

  • Self-starter with a strong desire to learn, grow, and take on responsibility.

  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to liaise effectively across offices.

  • Adaptable to changing work environments and tasks.

  • Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

  • Experience with Chrome River and/or 3E/Elite systems is advantageous, but full training will be provided.

Ideal Candidate

  • Prior experience in a legal or professional services environment.

  • Familiarity with 3E or similar legal accounting software would be a plus, but not essential.

  • Creative problem-solver with the ability to think outside the box.

  • Excellent communication skills and a team player, but also capable of using initiative.

  • IT literate, with a quick ability to learn new systems.

  • Flexible, with a positive and proactive attitude.

  • Strong numeracy skills.
