Is your New Year Resolution to find a better job in 2026? You aren’t alone. This January there are plenty of options to make good on those resolutions! From our experience, if you are looking to up sticks there are few better times in the year to move than January, or even early Feb.
There are 3 main reasons which traditionally make January an extremely busy time for recruitment.
- Fresh Thinking –While companies are often distracted by Christmas parties and year end financials in December, the beginning of the year brings a closer evaluation of staffing requirements. Departments which had been ticking along decide that for the New Year, ticking along isn’t going to cut it and that a fresh intake is needed to drive business forward.
- Budgets– January is often the time when recruitment budgets are signed off for the year. This is especially relevant to the Irish operations of multinationals. Budget proposals are submitted to HQ and if they get their wish, come January, purse strings are loosened and under resourced areas of the business can be properly staffed.
- New Year’s Resolutions! Human nature plays a big part in making January a month full of opportunity. This is the time of year that people take stock of where they are and where they’re going. Many decide that to get the job they want, they need to go! Letters of resignation are handed in, and as a result more opportunities arise to fill the vacated positions.
